The hand lettering is on heavy water color paper that has been painted with acrylics. This is mounted on a piece of foam core, then on a square of finished batik fabric and secured to a ½” square of painted wood with hanging hardware on the back.  Because the calligraphy, the painting, and the design on the batik fabric is individually handmade, no two will be exactly the same.

Rebecca received her MFA from Towson University in Maryland in 1986; worked as a freelance illustrator and graphic artist and taught at Towson’s art department and at the Maryland College of Art & Design in the 1990’s.

“There are those who think I’m silly to hand-letter everything I make and they wonder why I don’t figure out some way to get part of my work printed to save time”. Well that’s the point! “It’s just not how I want to make things …I enjoy creating my work by hand.”
