Eric and Trudi - a husband/wife collaborative team from Michigan - met at Beloit College over 30 years ago while each was studying art and bronze casting. They started designing and fabricating dichroic glass jewelry together in 1987. They developed their own method of fusing multiple layers of vibrantly colored dichroic glass into a complex collage of glass, and then firing the piece multiple times in their Kiln. The glass used is 80% recycled.
The Art:
“Dichroic glass is only our starting point. In creating our jewelry, we build a collage with multiple firings. Each handcrafted piece is shaped with careful attention to the abstract image held in its many layers, created in small batches within a particular color way, resulting in a one-of-a-kind composition- striving to create a harmony of depth, texture and color”.
Dichroic glass in a nutshell:
Developed by NASA to reflect ultra-violet radiation from the astronauts’ visors, dichroic glass is an optical filter. A complex structure composed of many layers of rare metals, the dichroic surface creates an interface with the light that hits it. Some colors pass through while others are intensely reflected.
Please Note: Handcrafted in small batches, each pair of earrings within a color palette will vary from the next…All are one-of-a-kind!
