16” Round
This striking round Plaque comes with a picture wire loop attached to the back for easy hanging. No two will be the same.
Using the ancient Japanese method of Raku, each wall hanging is removed from the kiln when it reaches a temperature of 1400 degrees Fahrenheit. In this red-hot state, it is immediately plunged into combustible sawdust. This blackens the raw clay and causes crazing in the plaque’s wall surface. The smoke and flames interact with the glaze creating shimmering metallic colors. Each comes out different from the next using this raku firing process.
Raku describes a low fire firing technique. Each raku piece is fired individually and tells its own story about the fire. The results are unique from other firing processes. Bright metallic colors, crackling effects, deep contrasting carbon colored effects are among the beautiful effects that Tom & Nanci achieve with the raku process.
Raku is for indoor use only and not for use with food or drink. The copper base glaze is an ever-changing contrast surface and it will take on the environment to which it is exposed.
